Opener

Bundled up and hunkered down
Where frost and readiness abound
Waiting for the crack of dawn
And flocks of Teal to fire upon
Dad with gun and I with mine
Like we are back in Rockwell’s time
Hear only breath and beating heart
Finger ready for the start
No time to worry, fret or pout
Just life and God to think about
Muffled calling coming near
Time shifts into 7th gear
A couple Pintails heading south
Now in my retriever’s mouth
A cup of joe and little snack
Before we snake the river back
Heading home I leave behind
My inner self and piece of mind

Hoorah for the contribution, Griggsy, and in an entirely new creative format, no less.

I, too, get a little nostalgic for the opening of Filipino season.
